The Mountbatten project consisted of major refurbishment to part of the existing leisure centre, along with a major extension to the building- including the provision of a 50m swimming pool and 150 station, state of the art fitness suite. The project posed challenging design and construction requirements to address environmental issues, as the site is adjacent to the existing sea wall with the potential for flooding. Outcome:The project now stands as a flagship centre for Parkwood Leisure.
The modern and original design emphasises the vibrant nature of the city and received the award for ‘Best Project over 1500m2’ and ‘The Best of the Best Award 2009’ at the annual Corus Conference. The success of the project would not have been possible without a good working partnership with Portsmouth City Council.
