RIVIERA INTERNATIONAL CENTRE NEW STATE OF THE ART GYM SET TO OPEN

22/07/21 – In partnership with Torbay Council, Parkwood Leisure have invested £910,000 into a new, state-of-the-art gym area at the Riviera International Centre in Torquay, which opens on 24 July.

The centre is the latest addition to the company’s portfolio, after winning the contract in early 2021. Parkwood took a 25 year tenure of the centre and extensive plans were put into place to redevelop the site. The new gym area is the first milestone in completing the renovation plans.

Working in partnership with Torbay Council, Parkwood have invested over £1.4 million in the project which has seen £225,000 worth of new LifeFitness top of the range equipment installed. Further developments include a dedicated Shapemaster studio, hosting the world leading power assisted equipment to cater for all abilities, as well as a new reception, multipurpose studio and immersive virtual reality spinning room, all of which are due to be completed in September 2021.

Once all of the works are completed, the centre will host a 120 station gym, leisure pool, multiple exercise studios and spa area for members to enjoy. This in addition to ocean views as well as the usual suite of regular conferences and weddings the site has to offer.

The plans don’t stop there as a further attraction is being installed at the site; a High & Low ropes adventure trail overlooking the sea will be introduced later in 2021 as part of Parkwood’s plans to make the site as attractive as possible.

Glen Hall, Managing Director of Parkwood Leisure, has said:

“I am delighted to confirm that the RIC’s new state of the art gym area will open on 24 July. Since our contract with the site started in April, we have been keen to put our footprint on the centre and this is the first checkpoint on the roadmap to doing that. Further plans are in place to expand the centre’s attractions, the sky trail particularly springs to mind with the amazing ocean views it will provide.”
