The build was awarded a good rating by BREEAM for sustainable design and construction
This sports centre modernisation programme, procured under a Design, Build, Operate, Maintain (DBOM) contract structure, comprised works at three locations. The new Spiceball Leisure Centre in Banbury was built to replace the existing centre, which had been subject to flooding. The new centre was built alongside the existing facility to ensure there was no break in service for customers.
The leisure centres at Bicester and Kidlington and Gosford underwent significant refurbishment work to modernise and extend the facilities. In addition to the design and construction works the contract includes the operation and maintenance of the three leisure centres for 25 years. The project was delivered on time and on budget. Parkwood Leisure was able to successfully develop and execute an innovate design and construction solution to utilise a difficult site in Banbury, permitting ongoing operation of the existing facility during the construction phase.
Positive feedback was received from key stakeholders and centre users regarding the facilities in general and the quality of the build. Additionally, the Spiceball facility achieved BREEAM Good rating.
