TOWCESTER CENTRE FOR LEISURE CELEBRATES 30TH BIRTHDAY AND UKACTIVE AWARDS WIN WITH FAMILY ACTIVITIES DAY

Towcester Centre for Leisure hosted a 30th birthday party for members, staff and local residents last Sunday (24th July), celebrating the milestone with a day of family-friendly activities.

The party featured a series of indoor and outdoor activities suitable for all ages, including a flume and wave session, free group exercise and martial arts classes, as well as free use of the centre’s 75- station gym, and swimming pool activities at 1992 prices.

Other activities included a treasure hunt, ‘beat the goalie’ competition, face painting and Giant Jenga, as well as a children’s disco.

Refreshments were also provided by local companies including Pizza Boys Bicester, Towcester Mill Brewery, Wonky Donkey Sweets, Claire’s Cottage, Kings Quality Food and Tony’s Ice Cream.

The event was officially opened by the Mayor, Cllr Martin Johns, and provided staff and attendees with a chance to celebrate the centre’s recent award wins at last month’s ukactive Awards.

As the biggest awards to serve the sector, the ukactive Awards recognise and celebrate excellence and innovation across health, wellbeing, and fitness in the UK.

In recognition of its post-COVID-19 recovery, Towcester Centre for Leisure was named Regional Club/Centre of the Year for the Midlands, and also won the coveted National Club/Centre of the Year. All regional winners were entered into the national award, with the club or centre with the highest score from the judging process named the national winner.

Commended for its focus on customers, staff, and community engagement, the centre recently underwent extensive refurbishments working in partnership with West Northamptonshire Council during closures as a result of the pandemic, to include a new yoga studio, increased gym space, and upgraded shower and changing facilities.

Commenting on the event, [Sam Jordan, Centre Manager], said:

“It was a great day and a fantastic opportunity to bring our members together to celebrate 30 fantastic years and our two ukactive awards, which we are very proud of. We were really pleased to offer the event free to our members who loved the activities, especially the wave and flume session. We hope to continue the success of Towcester Centre for Leisure and the positive impact we have on the local community well into the future!”
