RUFFORD ABBEY WELCOMES 8,000 VISITORS TO ANNUAL SPECTACLE OF LIGHT PERFORMANCES

This year’s Alice in Wonderland theme led visitors through immersive light displays and interactive illuminations

13/12/22 Rufford Abbey Country Park’s annual Spectacle of Light experience returned to the Nottinghamshire venue last month, bringing the historic location to life with immersive displays and live actors creating spectacular performances for the local community.

Building on the success of previous years, this year’s event welcomed over 8,000 visitors during the course of its 12 nights.

Visitors were treated to immersive light displays based on the classic children’s book, Alice in Wonderland, with rabbits, clocks and popular characters lining the pathways around the historical Abbey and through the historical grounds behind the Orangery.

The event’s opening night was attended by a number of travel and family social media influencers including Skye Jennifer whose Instagram account has over 44,000 followers. Other influencers attending had between 5,000 to 39,000 followers, helping to generate further interest in the event and leading to a positive impact on Rufford’s social media engagement.

The event also featured a variety of stalls, selling food and drink, light-up props and handmade Christmas decorations.

Rufford Abbey has fully embraced the festive spirit with a variety of Christmas activities taking place in the lead up to Christmas. Wooden huts have been installed to create the heritage sites’ very own Christmas market, which features stalls selling festive turkey baps, mulled wine and unique gifts.

Santa’s Grotto also returns to Rufford this year however, instead of meeting reindeers, children can meet Santa and his alpacas whilst making their way around the Winter Wonders Christmas Trail. After all the fun, families can enjoy a delicious two-course Christmas carvery lunch in Lord Savile’s Kitchen.

Commenting on the site’s festive events, Kirsty Edwards, Contract Manager at Rufford Abbey, said:

“The festive season is all about bringing families and communities together. Each winter, we aim to offer our visitors a unique festive experience, with events which keep them coming back every year.

It’s been great to welcome so many visitors to recent events at Rufford Abbey, like the Spectacle of Light performances. We have a broad visitor demographic at the park, and our aim is always to offer something for everyone. We’re so excited to see many more people and families attend our Christmas events over the festive period.”
